Play This Goodbye Just Ain’t Workin’
By Neil Dover

The engine is cranked
And it’s burning the gas tank
I’ve been standin’ here waitin’ for you to close the door
You just keep smilin’ and the engine just keeps idling
And I know I was leaving but I don’t recall what for
Maybe you could remind me cause right now I don’t remember
Could you just list all my faults again

And this goodbye just ain’t workin’
If the whole point was for me to leave
Baby let’s try again, maybe this next kiss’ll really be the end
I’m all packed up, I’m still really leavin’
But this goodbye just ain’t workin’

I just noticed that you re-painted the front porch swing
I’m glad it’s dry cause I just sat down without thinking
Now you’re out here on the porch
And the mosquiters are going in through the front door
I don’t want you to go back in and close it

And this goodbye just ain’t workin’
If the whole point was for me to leave
Baby let’s try again, maybe this kiss’ll really be the end
I’m all packed up, I’m still really leavin’
This goodbye just ain’t workin’

Now the engines sputterin’ out and you’ll have to drive me to town
And when we get back it’ll be too late to leave

And this goodbye just ain’t workin’
If the whole point was for me to leave
Baby let’s try again, maybe this kiss’ll really be the real end
I’m all packed up I’m still really leavin’
This goodbye looks like, this goodbye,
I guess this goodbye just ain’t working’
